Sarebbe opportuno diffondere le linee guida della National academy clinical biochemistry sull'argomento "markers tumorali". Vengono, in esse, schematizzati il quando e perchè utilizzare i suddetti marcatori. Spesso queste conoscenze vengono limitate ai laboratoristi o agli oncologi con il risultato che parecchi colleghi utilizzano i marcatori in maniera inappropriata per falsi screening o controlli.
